Live recordings from the Coastal Region Stage of the North Carolina Folklife Festival, 3 July 1978. Performances include old-time music, country blues, gospel choir, parlor songs, a capella old-time songs, and gospel bluegrass. There are also some Dutch folk songs played on the harmonica. Performers include the 2nd St. Paul's Junior Choir, Algia Mae Hinton (1929- ), Kenny and Fred O'Neal, Jake Zwaal, Elester Anderson (1925- 1980), Joe ("Ten Four") Holley, Max Carawan, Wendy and Letha McDaniels with Addie Randy Ward Smith, the Hinson Family, and the Green Grass Cloggers with musicians Tommy Jarrell (1901-1984), Teddy Lundy, and Blanton Owen. Performers from coastal North Carolina are featured.

Primarily a character actor, O'Neal began his career in St. Louis, Mo., where he organized the Aldridge Players. After more than ten years of acting in road companies throughout the West and Midwest, in 1936 O'Neal settled in New York City.
